About the Author:

Carrie Gracie experienced childhood in upper east Scotland and set up an eatery before finishing a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford. In a BBC vocation spreading over three decades, she has filled in as China reporter and Beijing department boss, a moderator on the BBC News Channel and host of the week by week BBC World Service program The Interview. She has made numerous documentaries for TV and radio, winning prizes including a Peabody and an Emmy, and commentating at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In January 2018, Gracie left her post as the BBC’s China editorial manager in a fight at unequal compensation, distributing an open letter to BBC spectators and giving proof before a parliamentary advisory group.
